2022-Present Scientific Writer/Editor, National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, National Institutes of Health I write and edit scientific information in a variety of formats for a variety of audiences, in the form of news stories, health informational fact sheets, and social media posts. I also use analytics to drive content strategy, manage the @NIAAAgov Facebook account, and work with reporters to answer media requests. 2019-2020 Science Writer, IQ Solutions As a federal contractor through IQ Solutions, I wrote and edited science writing and media relations tasks for the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders and the National Institute on Aging, both part of the National Institutes of Health. 2017-2019 AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow, National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, National Institutes of Health I honed my communication and policy skills by applying my knowledge of neuroscience and education to help inform the public about the science that goes on in our country, and why it is important. Writing news releases, congressional reports, and acting as an intermediary between the press and our organization. 2015-2017 Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow, Active Learning Initiative, Cornell University Advisor: Ronald Harris-Warrick Department of Neurobiology and Behavior Courses: Introduction to Behavior, Introduction to Neuroscience I designed and implemented research based active learning methods into the department’s core, team taught courses. I worked with professors to improve curriculum and cohesion across faculty and across the course. I developed assessments to probe the efficacy of certain teaching styles in order to improve the course further. This is a program which fosters creative problem solving and teamwork in children. Our group raised funds for teams and hosted events to support teams in the area. |
